My name has always given me trouble. It is long, with Spanish and Portuguese roots, but to keep things simple you can call me Isma. In sales and business, you will find me as Ismael Silvero. When it is time to reflect and think together, I am Ismael Guimarais. Though really, call me whatever you like.

I make videos for YouTube and write essays about faith, freedom, politics, and culture. I grew up in Cuba, and it shows in almost everything I write. I also write songs, which are on Spotify and YouTube.

Marketing, sales, and software

Ismael Silvero

I work as the marketing and sales director of a private security company in Mexico. On the side I design and build tools, websites, and apps for clients in other countries, and I am building WhisperAll, an AI work notebook. All of that lives at ismasilvero.com.

Why I do so many things

People ask me that a lot. What I code, what I write, and even what I learn making songs ends up helping me at work. I explained it better in The Return of the Polymath.

Cuba

I grew up watching Fidel’s speeches at my grandparents’ house. One day I noticed that nobody in the National Assembly ever said no, and that is when I started to stop believing. I tell the story in The Day I Stopped Believing in the Cuban Revolution.

Faith

I am a Christian. I have studied theology on my own for years, and I try to follow what the text says even when it forces me to change my mind. Why I believe is in Why I Can’t Be an Atheist (Even If I Wanted To).

The songs

Some are about God, some about my mother, and some about what it feels like to emigrate. They are on Spotify and YouTube, and I gathered them on the music page.

My rule for thinking

“Only the knowable and evaluable matters. If something is impossible to know by any means (empirical, logical, inferential), the question lacks practical utility.”
